As much as I love blogging, it’s not my full-time job.  I am actually the director of sales for Bishop-McCann, an agency that produces meetings, incentives and events for companies all over the world.  I have worked in the events industry for close to 22 years and It’s a fast-paced environment that requires me to constantly be on my A-game.  I work with some of the most creative and talented people in the events industry and I am constantly in front of clients, both day and night.

I am not a big suit person.  Although I think a great power suit is never a bad thing, I like to mix up my career pieces with a combination of conservative vs. edgy.  Maybe I stray away from suits because my boss at my first job used to send me home because my Bebe skirts were too short!  She’d actually take out a ruler to measure the length from my knee!   I also need to be cognizant of the fact that sometimes I need to go from day to night in an instant which is why I love a traditional blazer over a fun, playful top.  Layering pieces are key as they can be dressed up or down.  I travel quite a bit for my profession and always need to keep comfort in mind for long plane trips.  I grew up in a traditional family where we always dressed up to go to plays, church and on a plane trip.  I have always kept that tradition and never dress down, especially when I’m traveling.  But I totally get in this day and age why people wear comfy clothes – with seats getting smaller and traveling getting more stressful, you do whatever it takes to get you there with some sanity! That’s what makes fashion so much fun – it’s never the same thing on everybody!  Just don’t put your bare feet on the trays (gross).

In my industry first impressions are everything.  Since I work in a highly creative environment, I need to look sharp, polished and on-trend at all times.  Our clients look to us as the experts in how we’re going to bring their brand alive through a live experience.  Would you buy a Ferrari from someone who drives a beat-up car?   My first impression needs to be one that makes an impact.  I am a huge fan of statement necklaces.  I never go into a business meeting without a great piece around my neck that says, “I’m going to kick today’s butt.”
