Zulily. I had always noticed ads for this online shopping site but I never really thought about the site until I saw a lady wearing an adorable tunic that I complimented one day. I asked her where she bought it and she mentioned Zulily so I thought I’d give it a try.
I downloaded the app and I was immediately thrust into this online shopping mecca of clothing, shoes and home furnishings. It was like Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Home Goods and the local clothing boutiques came down from the heavens and into the screen of my phone, all within the comfort of my own home. I immediately started shopping and couldn’t believe how great the prices were on clothes that looked incredibly unique. I placed my first order and couldn’t wait to receive the tops I had swooned over as I was online shopping.
As I started to read about the company, I became more and more fascinated about their business model. The reason why prices are so low is because most of their partners hold inventory until a customer places an order. However, this comes at a price (no pun intended). Zulily’s return policy is stringent. They do not accept most returns due to the fact that they don’t house inventory so you have to shop carefully. However, It’s always worth contacting customer service to see what they can do if you are extremely unhappy about the item you ordered. I have probably ordered close to 50 pieces from this company over the past year and I have only been unhappy with 3 items. When I contacted customer service they were incredibly helpful and agreed to take back the items (one item was a different size than what I ordered). It’s always worth a shot to contact them; chances are they will work with you on a return option that will make you happy.
- Beware of ordering bold patterns and try to stick with solids: One of my biggest pet peeves with clothing is if the patterns don’t line up at the seams. Some of the items I’ve received from Zulily have been made like this and I tend to shy away from patterns when ordering from them now. The pictures on the Website can be incredibly deceiving (they tend to hide the “flaws” so they don’t look as bad). Below is a perfect example of a few Zulily “fails”:
And I am pretty sure they forgot to mention “Curtain Material” when I ordered this:
- Many items run small so order a size up: For the curvy girls out there, beware of small, medium and large (and sometimes even XL) runs really small. Stick with XXL, or plus size styles. I have never been disappointed with fit when I order those sizes.
- Be patient on shipments: Since Zulily’s vendors house their own inventory (and much of their merchandise comes from overseas) shipments typically arrive 3-6 weeks after you order.
- Stick with brands or cuts that you know and love: I have scored some great bargains on CAbi, Stella & Dot jewelry, NYDJ jeans (which I absolutely love) and other brands that I know fit my body type well lives up to its quality. I just purchased a pair of Tommy Bahama shoes that were $79.99 on Zulily and the same pair was currently for sale at Zappos for $169! There are some great deals to be had. Like shopping at Marshall’s or a similar store, patience can be rewarding!
Zulily changes their inventory daily and only offers the items for a few days before they sell out. Everyday there is something different which makes it a lot of fun to shop! I am a huge fan of cold shoulder tops and I have found some great pieces for a steal.
This top was actually advertised as a dress but I knew I could wear it as a cold-shoulder tunic with pants so I bought it in this awesome coral color as well as navy blue. The price? (wait for it…..) $17.99!
I loved the top below so much I ordered it in just about every color. For $14.99 you just can’t go wrong! (Necklace is from Stella & Dot).
I love the uniqueness of a lot of the pieces they offer too. I love this top below for a fun change to traditional blouses (necklace from Stella & Dot):
Happy shopping everybody!
